Welcome to 8th grade language arts and reading at Creekside Park Junior High! We are on the rise!
The 2017-2018 school year is going to be full of exciting challenges and learning that will prepare you for high school and beyond. I am thrilled to be on this journey with you during this school year! My goals for my 8th graders this year are to enhance critical thinking skills and college readiness skills. I also love seeing a community of readers and writers inside my classroom! Throughout this year we will be working together to enhance our reading and writing skills.

Frequently asked questions:
What do I need for Language Arts?
(This will serve as a reader/writer notebook)
- red checking pen
- blue or black pen
- colored highlighter
- pencil and eraser
When do we go to the library?
-We are scheduled to go to the library every two weeks. During that time you are encouraged to check out a book.
How can I become a better reader?
-The answer is simple...READ the more you read the more you grow!! Reading may not be your first love but it is an important life skill that we can always grow in.
Do we need to buy books for your class?
-During the school year you will not need to buy specific books for my class. If you would like to purchase a book that we are reading in our literature circles it is optional. Some students prefer to have their own copy of a book so that they can make annotations.
“Every book has a skeleton hidden between its covers. Your job as an analytic reader is to find it.” – Adler and Van Dore
