Track Information



     Welcome to the 2020 season for the Creekside Park Cougars track and field program.  We look forward to a great season.  This packet will provide valuable information regarding scheduling, and practices



         Athletes will try to qualify for running (track) events such as the 100m, 200m, 400m sprints; 100m & 300m hurdles; 800m, 1600m, and 2400m runs; as well as the 400m, 800m and 1600m relay.  They can also qualify for field events such as the shot, discus, high jump, long jump, triple jump, and pole vault.


 Practice will be held Monday thru Thursday each week. We will not practice on meet days. (Distance will practice some Friday mornings).  Practice will be held after school until 4:30. We will practice rain or shine unless an announcement is made prior to practice.  Practices are scheduled to end at 4:30. Some athletes will finish at 4:00 depending on the events they are competing in.   Athlete pick-up is in the back driveway, behind the gyms.  Coaches are not allowed to transport students and are not able to leave until all athletes have been picked up.


Communication is very important when an athlete misses practice.  We should receive an email prior to any absences or limitations due to illness or injury.  Tutoring absences should be communicated prior to the missed practice with a note or email from the teacher or parent.  Tutoring after school should only be done if there is absolutely no alternative in the morning.





     Athletes will travel by bus to and from the meets.  We will leave immediately after school or earlier.  Students are not allowed to leave the meet unless signed out by a parent or guardian.  They will not be released to a non-parent or guardian without a prior written note from the parent/guardian.  Parents and/or guardians must sign-out their athlete at the meet with a designated coach. PARENTS AND NONPARTICIPANTS ARE NOT ALLOWED ON TRACK OR INFIELD AREA.  Athletes riding back to school on the bus must be picked up no later than 30 minutes after the end of the meet. 


 Athletes should bring a healthy snack (power bar, light sandwich) to eat prior to their events.  There will be a concession stand at most meets for after they have finished.  There will be water provided by the host school, however athletes may want to bring a sports drink or water for after they run.  Be aware of the weather.  Blankets or extra jackets may be needed on cold nights.  Sunscreen and hats may be necessary on hot days. 






     Athletes will be issued a track uniform (shorts & top) for meets. Sweats and travel bags will also be issued.  Bags are to be used only at meets (not a book bag) and sweats may only be worn at meets and cold practice days.  Lost or damaged items will have to be paid for.  All items can be washed in cold water and dried with low heat.  Athletes will need to provide their own shoes.  Sprinters and jumpers should wear ¼ inch running spikes to compete in meets.  Distance can run in flats or distance spikes.  All runners should have “flat” running shoes for practice. 




     All injuries must be reported to a coach.   Any limitations placed on activity by a doctor must be turned in to the coaching staff.  Limitation of activity requested by a parent is only good for two days.  Limitation to participation in practice will effect participation at meets. 


Picture Day


     Pictures will be on ...... Athletes will take a team photo with the option of taking individual pictures. Packets will be sent home prior to the event.
