7-8th Grade Choir Pre-UIL CANCELLED

Good Morning Choir Families!
Due to unforeseen conflicts, (i.e. our CPJHS Basketball Team being so awesome that they are in the playoffs!), our choir pre-UIL Concert on 2/22/18 has been cancelled.  As many of you know, I also teach at Northpointe Intermediate School, and am conducting their concert on the only other available evening for a performance before our contest on March 6th.
In lieu of the short concert, I am thinking about having a large rehearsal after school and bringing in a clinician to work with the choir.  I believe this will benefit them greatly and will be a productive use of all of our time.  I will let you know when I have a date confirmed for that event.  All of you are invited to come to UIL and hear your student sing if you are available during the day - the contest is open for parents as well!  We sing ( tentatively) at 12:20 PM on March 6, 2018 at Spring Baptist Church.  Please email me if you would like to come chaperone and hear them sing!  They are working really hard and will do well.
Kind Regards and more to come,
Ms. Matthews

Letter to 7-8th Grade Choir Families

Hello Choir Families!
Your students have been hard at work preparing for UIL Concert and Sight Reading.  They have some important dates coming up quickly that I would like you to be aware of:
1. Feb. 22, 2018, Thursday:  7th-8th grade choir ONLY - Pre-UIL Concert at CPJHS, 7 PM.  Short and sweet!  This will be an early run of our concert music for contest.
2. March 6, 2018, Tuesday: 9:00 AM - UIL Concert and Sight Reading Contest.  We will bus to Spring Baptist Church for our UIL Contest.
3. Region Auditions, April 7, 2018, Saturday, 8:00 AM - 5:00 PM: at Peet Junior High in Conroe (bus available depending on number of auditioning students).  Practice tracks are on my Edlio site.  Students must practice this mostly on their own - I will offer tutorials after schools starting after Spring Break. I must have chaperones for this event - I am not allowed to be with students before auditions!!!  Please email me if you can volunteer.
4. Region Weekend - April 20-21, 2018
Dresses and tuxes will be coming home soon!  The cost of uniform rental is $20 and will be paid via the online portal. Boys will need to purchase their own black pants, black socks, and black shoes. Girls will need to purchase black pantyhose and black dress shoes (flats are best!).
MORE IMPORTANT: Your student must be eligible to participate in the UIL Contest.  If they have a failing grade right now, they can raise it on their 2/22/18 report to regain eligibility.
As always, please feel free to email me with any questions or concerns!  Your students are working so hard and I am proud of them!
Kind Regards,
Ms. Matthews

Solo and Ensemble Letter!

CPJHS Choir Solo and Ensemble Contest Information

at Tomball JHS

Friday, November 3, 2017

Students entered in the UIL Solo and Ensemble Competition:

I know you are all working very hard on your solo for the competition!  I am so proud of all of your hard work, and I know you will represent CPJHS well.

Students who receive a superior rating on their solo will receive a medal for their performance in each event entered.

See attached for your child’s performance times.

A few details about our contest:

Students do not have to stay the entire contest.  The contest is a come and go situation. Please look at the schedule to see what time your student will sing.  They will need to report to the cafeteria 30 minutes before their first performance time and stay until about 20 minutes after their last time.  The schedule usually runs well, but be prepared for delays. Students can call home from the cafeteria for pick up upon completing their last event. If your student has an issue with schedule, please email me ASAP so I can place them accordingly.

Parents cannot hear the student competition, but can certainly wait for their student in the cafeteria.

What to wear:

Students will need to wear nice clothes – “Sunday Best.”

What to bring:

  • A smile and a prepared solo!

What to leave at home:

  • Nuisance items of any kind
  • Cell phones must be OFF for the duration of the contest when students are in the room.  Students can listen to music while waiting in cafeteria WITH EARBUDS.

Please return the attached form to Ms. Matthews as permission to attend the event on Wednesday, November 1.

Additionally, do not forget that if you have not already turned in your $10 payment for your solo or ensemble, those are due now.

Please continue working hard on your events through next week. All selections must be memorized.  Each event has a 10 dollar cancellation fee.

Solo Fee Due Tuesday, 10/31

If your student is participating in the solo contest this year, they will need to bring $10 to me by Tuesday.  Cash preferred. Thank you!  The schedule will be posted Friday afternoon.
